Staff Spotlight: Amanda McClendon

Electronic Resources Acquisition Librarian

By Tiffianie Perritt

Amanda grew up in Houston, attended Baylor University for her bachelor’s degree and earned her master’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin.

She began work at UHD in September 2018 in the Technical Services department of the W.I. Dykes Library and serves as a liaison for the library in what she calls a “behind the scenes” role.

Essentially, Amanda talks to publishers to see if there is a contract in place. If one is in place, she then works to make sure this information is readily available on the UHD library website. By doing this, she ensures the school has access to the information.

“I really enjoy the process of getting things that people really need,” Amanda said. In addition to working in electronic resources, Amanda also handles the library’s budget.

What she likes most about UHD is its mission of providing a good quality education to as many people as possible.

In spite of her “behind the scenes role,” Amanda is not averse to the spotlight. Most people don’t know she was a contestant on Jeopardy in 2018. After passing the preliminary questions, she moved onto the in-person auditions, where Alex Trebek met with contestants for a Q&A.  Amanda’s episode aired on May 30, 2018.
